Critical Thinking Post #2

"Popular Science" Today

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odysseys episode left me wanting to learn more about the universe. The tone of show was optimistic because it seems to encourage people to learn more and see how the universe works. Neil deGrasse Tyson looks passionate and seem to know what he is talking about. This show makes me feel there are more things to discover but in the past on how some scientists are unrecognized or how humans can be relating to a fruit. I think this show values science because it talks about facts that I have not learned anywhere but in the show and explores to every detail of a fact.
The show Cosmos does offer a different view on science by explore on how science existed and people who try to figure out how the universe works. The Cosmos show doesn’t give basic facts but with along the facts, there are details.  In school, I learn that Galileo was the first who came up with the theory that the sun is in the middle of the universe instead of the earth. Cosmos explains there were other scientists that thought about this theory before Galileo prove the theory right. The story that really got my interest is Bruno. Giordano Bruno was one of who discover that earth wasn’t in the middle of the universe by reading books ban from the church and he isn’t well known. He also had a dream he see the sun and realizes it was another star. He later decided to tell this vision to Oxford University but people laugh at him. Cosmos makes discovery about people don’t talk about. I never heard of Giordano Bruno but his story is still interesting just like Galileo’s story is.  People should learn more about a than just basic fact but dig for more information.
